Brandon`s House is located at Mountain Pass Ranch where we strengthen todays kids for better tomorrows through hands on experiences and a healthy way of life. We support America`s youth in crisis and recovery through Maple Star Oregon. The home exists on a working horse ranch and operates in co-existence with the operating ranch. Whether the teens are spending time in the corral or riding the back country trails of Eastern Oregon, they are surrounded by a natural and healing environment.
Some of our indoor activities include creative scrap-booking projects provided by Timeline Specialties Incorporated where youth will begin to acknowledge their past, live in the present and look to their future. These self motivational workbooks are designed to encourage todays youth to reach for their dreams and accomplish their goals.
We work to make the difference for better days .....One day at a time!
Natural Therapy Resources
Horses at the ranch provide a natural therapy resource for troubled teens placed in our care. Studies have shown that building a relationship with a horse releases endorphins and decreases the chemicals that cause stress. The girls will learn to feed, groom and care for all of the horses soon after they arrive. Individuals living on the ranch may work with the horses at any time
during their stay.
Teamwork projects and animal related chores will be required each day from those who have shown an interest in working with the animals. Horses, goats, chickens, rabbits and of course dogs and cats are an integral part of our operation.
Wild Horses
Girls who are interested in the adoption of a wild Mustang will attend a live horse auction through the Bureau of Land Management. The colt or filly will be brought to the ranch where the youth will begin to take the responsibility for its grooming and overall care. This will include handling, feeding and ground breaking the horse in preparation for professional training services.
The outcome of this over-all project will provide a visual perspective where ground breakers will embrace their accomplishments. Horse projects may be placed with individuals in aftercare plans whenever possible.
Competitions
We will encourage our youth to become involved in the Northwest Extreme Mustang Makeover when we see a girl and the horse progressing to this degree.
Additionally we support teens who become involved with the Oregon Equestrian Trails or the Mustang Heritage Foundation as well as 4-H and Grant County Fair Opportunities.
Please visit our links for more information on the programs that we support.
